'And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered about him, and he was beside the sea. Then came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, and seeing him, he fell at his feet and implored him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well and live.” And he went with him. And a great crowd followed him and thronged about him. And there was a woman who had had a discharge of blood for twelve years, and who had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better but rather grew worse. She had heard the reports about Jesus and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his garment. For she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well.” And immediately the flow of blood dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her disease. And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing around you, and yet you say, ‘Who touched me?’ ” And he looked around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling and fell down before him and told him the whole truth. And he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.” '

 - Mark 5:21-34 ESV

She had nothing. Actually, she had a great deal of fear. She didn't know how Jesus or His disciples would react to her touching Him secretly. As a matter of fact, she figured that she was so insignificant that perhaps he wouldn't take the time to heal her. After all, why would He? She was just a woman. She wasn't an esteemed rabbi, wealthy man, or really anyone of any importance in the grand scheme of things.

But Jesus stops.

The key detail here is in the context. In this chapter, a leader of a synagogue is leading Jesus to his daughter so that He can heal her. A crowd has formed around Him. This is a moment that anyone might take for personal glory or to build a reputation. He's going to an important man's house!
But, no. Instead, Jesus puts a halt to the trip and stops to ask, "Who touched my garments?"
Reputation didn't matter. He wanted to know who touched Him.

This woman comes forth, afraid. But there is no shame here; there is only compassion and a faithful heart. Her faith has overcome her fear.

"Daughter, your faith has made you well..."

That's all it took. Jesus doesn't ask for anything more. He asked for nothing in return. He had no terms for this gift. Instead, He simply says, "go, be at peace..." Faith in Christ overcomes fear, and faith always brings peace. This lowly woman, forgotten by the world, fearful yet filled with faith, was not only healed but called "Daughter."

There is an important detail here. Jesus was on the way to heal a powerful man's daughter, yet He still stopped to attend to this meek woman, showing the crowd who His sons and daughters truly are. We are the weak, the tired, the ones the world has forgotten. But He remembers.

Are you ailing? Are you hurting? You don't even need to touch his clothes. Instead, come to Him in faith, for He will never turn you away. For it is in his blood and love that we are called Sons and Daughters of God.
To Him be the power, the glory, and the kingdom forever.
So be it and let it be.
Amen.
